photographs. Other books can also be illustrated, but they are only
called picture books when the majority of each page has a picture on
it.

such rights. There are stock photo companies which sell rights to
photos, but you have to know the specific terms of the contract. If
it's royalty free, you may pay a one-time use fee without having to
give part of your profits to the owner of the image. If it's a royalty
contract, then, obviously, you'll have to give a part of your
royalties to the owner of the image. Just citing the owner or
photographer is appropriate if you have that as a legal use
