Why do comapnies advertise?

Melissa Lavallie: The company wants to keep it's well established name, a household name. Example. Obviously everyone, or most everyone has not only heard of McDonald's, but frequent this fast food chain often. But still, the company spends millions on advertising. This continues to get the arch symbol recognizable. It markets the food to look great, the people to look happy. It maintains peoples want for their food. Robin Marchione: Companies advertise to make lots of money for their products. The more known their product is, the more money they get. (something we call greedy) If you ever pay attention in a movie where a girl is eating "coco puff" cereal or whatever, they are advertising. There are many unconscious ways that companies advertise to get you to try their product. Look at the book, "How Starbucks! Saved My Life". Some would beg to differ, but I feel like it's an advertisement for Starbucks. It's all about the money, and getting people to pick them.
