bought car as is but got ripped off?

Kenneth Blacker: You accepted the vehicle "as is", meaning whatever condition it was in when you took the keys. The seller has no obligation to do anything for you.

Elvin Mannheimer: You bought a USED car AS IS, You are an owner.Anything he said was "salesmanship" and should have been taken with a grain of salt. You can drive cars with oil leaks for years & years. Just add a little oil occasionally. I had one like that. It was an $800 car not worth repairing the seal so I just added a little oil every few weeks.I sold it to a guy who did the same thing for a few more years. So a mail seal doesn't mean the car is worthless....Show more

Clemente Schoeck: Even if you had all those statements signed, dated and notarized, you would still be responsible for getting the car fixed if you want to use it. Yes, he probably DID know about the leak. Yes, he probably ripped you off. You still bought it as-is and didn't get it inspected by a mechanic beforehand.Consider that! a lesson learned....Show more

Brittanie Zakutney: if you mean do you have to pay for the repair then you are screwed. It is your responsibility to have any used car checked out before you buy it. Did you even look where the car was parked for any leaks? Did you just take the word of a total stranger? If that seal was leaking oil bad then it was leaking like that when you bought it.

Hunter Osterberger: Yeah the repair falls on you. Depending on which seal is leaking the cost can range widely. Most of the time it is the one in front of the transmission. This of couse means you have to remove trans to put in a 12.00 seal. If it is this seal...check with various transmission shops and find out what they would charge to do it. In my part of the Country(south) this would be a 350.00 repair at worse.
