Ardath Templer: Hello tivo basically takes the place of your cable box so u can return your cablebox. the one drawback is most cable comps dont have on demand on tivos but there are a few that do go too tivo.com too find out hope this helps!!!!!!

Unfortunately it's also the most expensive.First you need to buy the Tivo, which is $200-300, and then you need a subscription to Tivo's TV data. This way the Tivo knows what shows are on what channels so it can record your shows for you. A subscription is required. There are monthly, annual, or lifetime subscriptions available. Lifetime subscription is a one time fee of $300 or so. You will also need to get a Cable Card for your Tivo. This is about $3/mo. This allows the Tivo to record Comcast's "Digital Cable" signal. Otherwise it'll just record that blue screen that tells you to call Comcast to get a cable box.! Once installed, your Tivo will have access to the same channels as your TV.While you can use your Tivo to channel surf, most people simply use it to watch their recordings.
