Anibal Katayama: Having to report your parents info on your fafsa has nothing to do with living independently or who claims you (or not) on their tax returns. When you reapply as a jr or soph or senior (and if you have to report your parent info) depends on your answers to the Dept of Education's 13 dependency status questions. Tyree Allenbrand: If you are married, have a child, are over 24, or were in foster care you are co! nsidered independent. However schools can make exceptions. It's rare and you have to have a really good reason for your parents not being able to take care of you and you have to prove that it is true. But when you are a sophomore you usually get a little more financial aid than you did as a freshman anyways as long as you have a good academic standing....Show more

It is a type of federal grant that is awarded college undergraduate program students and does not need to be repaid. A student awarded with the FSEOG is given anything between $100.00 and $4,000.00 per year depending on the gravity of the personâs financial aid need.
Clare Hoard: You are considered dependent for financial aid purposes until you are 24, get married, have a child, join the army or earn a bachelor's degree. Simply moving! out and living on your own does not make you independent for ! financial aid.
