mental health stigma?

Alisa Kaleiwahea: Well. Consider it only from MH point of view. and take guidance from your own lecturer, dean or professor in your college. My dad is a Principal in some other college and he told me that all faculty members have been instructed to render maximum help to the students when they want to write any research paper.

Delmer Pectol: i don't think the information will give you is like scientifically proven to where government will support my ideology. not that what i am saying is untrue but more so that it is looked down upon or not cared about or whatever. so anyways what i will say is that stigma will be alive forever. just like world peace will never occur that is a reality of life. until we go to heaven a place of peace. even heaven had a war with satan and his demon followers against the powers of the lord or whatever so even that place had rare occurrences of imperfection though they create a quick solution since good will overcome evil eventually. so ! anyways back to people in life in general. i know that mental illness is common my guess maybe 10% of the population has been diagnosed and is currently on some form of medication. i am not saying that is a fact since i don't have real statistics. but i think the reason why mental illness is looked down is more so associated with particular severe conditions rather then the majority of mental health diagnosis. example schizophrenia has like the worst prognosis. now there are personality disorders and that is what the prison population is made up of but that is not a real mental health illness in my opinion since it is choiceful behavior that is abnormal to the culture they are living in basically they are mean and selfish is what their real diagnosis should be. and the conditions of living in jail is so sad that you may get sick living there for so long so that is not necessarily a mental illness genetic but more circumstantial to the lifestyle of no good living missing ou! t on the rest of life so that is totally different. anyways ba! ck to severity of diagnosis. i think the more disabling a condition is the more stigma will be associated with that person or diagnosis based on the common perception or situations of those diseases. examples are with stigma is hiv or gay people. the reason is if you tell people they may laugh at you and joke about your condition rather then help you or feel neutral about the issue since the disease is derived by what most Christians would describe as sin. otehr examples are with drug addiction stuff like that. anyways so schizorphrenia falls under this category of stigma due to the fact they do not take care of themselves well. people are not dumb they just choose to be mean to people on these issues because even with all these laws and education they choose to misbehave. and they constantly need reminders who to behave appropriately. i know that with mental health organizations like NAMI for instance or other brands that is just one i know is national that i am brining fo! r example even though there is clearly more organizations they choose to say the issue is lack of knowledge and i refuse to think that. i think the issue is bottom line. you can go to a library and read about mental illness. i think people think mental illness is a sin. remember the 7 deadly sins int eh catholic church well sloth is on that list so people think that mentally ill people are lazy even those with depression. kind of like if i am able to live life ideally why can't anyone else so more so insensitivity to the possibility of the diagnosis or the reality of how science has determined this disease. so anyways other examples are these are what i believe is the real issue in society i don't agree with the books definition on this issue of why stigma exists. they cost money through welfare and social services especially if they grow up low income or homeless basically they are wasting money or tax payers dollars in a lot of peoples eyes. not all politicians want to co! ver healthcare for behavior they feel are self induced and not real dis! eases or behaviors that are just abnormal or whatever they feel you should pay your own bills so insurance or hospital wise. the healthcare providers can be stigmatizing to a patient especially people that have criminal records or people suspected of crime even with no criminal record no court and nothing to go on. the mental health organizations like psychiatry are trying to increase diagnosis rates and getting help through medication since they believe these diseases are genetic. i think they are trying to say if you take your medication as prescribed that your behavior will be good and you will fit in the culture and in that way reduce stigma. now i don't fully agree with that i don't think our government is doing enough to reduce stigma. it is a minor issue and is more specific towards specific situations or abnormal rare situation or particular types of people. it is a bigger effect in court cases then in healthcare situation so that is how i see it. i just think my pe! rspective is different don't know if it will give you a good grade in your class but it will help you improving expanding your knowledge base of the reality of life of what is going on in this world. what i disagree with the media is the insanity argument i do not believe in it at all. i believe mental illness can effect behavior to a certain degree i am not explaining my technicalities in depth because it is too long so that is just how i feel about this particular issue....Show more

Marvella Benward: I don't know if you've seen "A Beautiful Mind." You might find that helpful in writing your paper. Also,I think if you had a personal experience with mental illness, e.g., knowing a friend or family member who suffer from mental illness, would be great to tie into your paper. Amanda Bynes and the Colorado movie theatre shooter are some people who appear to suffer from mental illness. I feel like I'd have to know more about your topic to really help, but that's all I can! think of. I hope that's helped in some way....Show more
