How did native americans gamble?

Garry Ohmen: Other answers are incorrect - gambling was absolutely part of the culture of many North American native peoples. There are stories of early traders trying to learn some of the games, which could be quite complicated. Many lost a lot in trying to learn! There were games for which the rules might change on different days, for example. I don't remember all the names, and my native partner is busy just now, so I cannot ask her, but gambling was something they certainly did, and still do in many places....Show more

Avis Brantner: Okay, just to clerify things, who think im so close minded about native americans, I watched dances with wolves, and I was just wondering why one of them said come on theres gambling tonight. I was wondering if the white people introduced it to them. or not. Because they were the type that didnt really love white people. And most likely didnt have cards.

Heidy Fujikake: What, you think gambling is traditional or something! ? I'm sure most human beings have had their games they created, and most probably bet on belongings at times, but I wouldn't assume things on outright gambling.
